OUR SPORTS WORLD
I was away on vacation visiting my wife's family deep in thought playing Fortnight...er, working on my latest column when she appeared in the doorway. "Are you working?" She asked.
"Um, yeah," I said as I bent the laptop screen down toward me so she wouldn't see. "I'm a little short on inspiration these days. I mean, there's only so many ways for me to say that I think the Padres stink."
Just call it the business of being the San Diego Padres. The lone Padre 2018 All-Star is now a former Padre as Brad Hand and fellow bullpen mate Adam Cimber are headed to Cleveland to join the AL Central leaders.
The Ballad of Kawhi Leonard has come to an end...for now. San Antonio traded their unhappy All-Star forward along with Danny Green to Toronto for All-Star Demarr DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick.
Please allow me to start my story in June 1978. It was my seventh birthday. My parents had brought me a present and wanted to surprise me. So they told my younger sister not to tell me what it was. And since she was three years old and very obedient, she complied. She walked up to me and cheerfully told me, "We didn't buy you a baseball cap."
